The Australian Hellenic Choir is introducing new elements with the next concert – a collaboration with a popular band and also a club selected as a venue, in an attempt to create a unique musical experience for their audience.

The concert scheduled for Sunday, 11 October at the Juniors Kingsford, will present orchestral arrangements of a selection of the much loved songs of composer Stavros Kougioumtzis, who left an indelible mark on the Greek music scene of the 70s and 80s. In a first, the choir has teamed up with IHO NYX, an established band with a sizeable fan base among the younger generation, who will add their instrumental renditions and solos to the choral sound.

The arrangements of the choir’s musical director, Leon Vitogiannis, give the thirty choristers the opportunity to shine with a repertoire that includes Natane To ‘21, Sta Psila Ta Parathiria, To Sakaki Mou Ki An Stazi, I Eleftheri Ki Orei. Conductor at the concert will be award winning young musical prodigy and composer Savvas Sousamidis.

The choir’s president, John Saratsopoulos, expressed his desire for this concert to attract a younger audience, in addition to the mature-aged fans, who he hopes will fill the 500 capacity venue. “As usual, our choir has worked very hard in order to present another high quality performance. We believe that the club atmosphere with the facilities at hand will enhance the experience. It will be a celebration of Greek music the Greek Australian way. We are very excited about our collaboration with IHO NYX”, concluded Mr Saratsopoulos.
